What is...
Zumba teacher insurance?
Whether you teach at a local gym or in a church hall - if you’re teaching members of the public, you could run into risks. Someone could trip and fall during your class, suffering an injury or your expensive speakers could be stolen. Whatever the risks, it’s important to consider protecting yourself, your class and your business.
Zumba instructor insurance is designed to protect Zumba teachers against risks and potential claims that you could run into while teaching.
It provides peace of mind, so you can focus on teaching a great Zumba class and continue to shimmy and shake.
Why do Zumba instructors need insurance?
Whether you have a weekly class or teach every day – it's important to have the right cover in place for your classes, as you might run into the following:
- A student gets injured during class
- You injure yourself while teaching
- A student claims you gave out incorrect or wrong advice
If you run a fitness studio and hire employees – you’ll also need employers’ liability insurance, which is a legal requirement. If you are self-employed and work alone as an instructor, you won’t need this.
What type of insurance can Zumba instructors get?
Policies will vary per provider, and terms and conditions apply, so always check the small print in your policy wording to see what’s included and excluded. Your insurance cover could include:
Public liability insurance
Professional Indemnity insurance
Personal accident insurance
Business equipment insurance
Employers’ liability insurance
What doesn’t it cover?
Although not every insurer is the same, you are likely to see some exclusions. Always refer to your policy wording to see what’s included and excluded. You may see the following exclusions:
- High-risk activities outside standard Zumba (like using bars for weightlifting)
- Deliberate or reckless actions
- Teaching in unauthorised or unsafe venues
- Deliberate acts of negligence
Always tell your broker details of your classes, including where you teach and whether you work with children, so they can arrange the right cover for you.
How much does Zumba insurance cost?
Zumba instructor insurance could cost from 23p a day*
But, no two insurers are the same, so it’s difficult to give an actual figure for what you might be paying for an annual insurance policy. The following will affect the price of your premiums:
- Extent of cover - The more cover you opt for, the more expensive your package is likely to be.
- Your insurer - The insurer you choose will also influence costs.
- Experience level - Your insurer could take into account how long you’ve been qualified.
- Other fitness activities - If you are also qualified for other fitness activities outside of Zumba, you should tell your broker.
- Location – Where you work is taken into consideration when calculating the price of your premiums.
- Claims history - Whether or not you’ve had previous claims made against you or you have made previous claims may affect your future premiums.

*This price is for a trades and professions policy – 10% of customers who were sold with one of our panel providers paid £84.20 or less annually (excluding any additional administration fees) between 01/01/25 & 31/12/2025. Equivalent to £7.02 a month or £0.23 a day (and excludes the extra costs for paying monthly). Your actual policy and price may vary based on your business requirements.

Zumba Instructor Insurance FAQs
Are you covered to offer nutritional advice?
Although every insurer is different, standard Zumba instructor insurance doesn't typically cover nutritional guidance. If you plan to offer dietary advice, you'll need additional coverage or specific insurance to do this.
You must always make your broker aware if you are doing anything outside of the discussed trade. Nutritional advice would not be covered without telling your broker about this.
What insurance might you need if you only hire a space or studio?
If you hire a studio, hall or other space on a regular basis, you'll still need to think about insurance. You should consider:
- Your own public liability insurance
- Contents insurance for your equipment
- Professional indemnity coverage
- Clear documentation of space-sharing agreements
- Additional liability cover depending on who you teach and if you perform at other venues.
Are you insured to teach children?
Not all insurers are the same, but standard policies may not automatically cover teaching minors. Always tell your broker if you work with children, you may need:
- An enhanced DBS check
- Specific children's activity coverage
- Additional insurance coverage
- A fitness certification
Are there any restrictions on where Zumba Instructors can train?
Most insurers will have specific terms and conditions around teaching location and will likely mention suitable venues for exercises, including:
- Commercial gyms and studios
- Community centers
- Church halls
- Purpose-built fitness facilities
- Properly maintained outdoor spaces
Therefore, it’s key you tell your broker where you teach and if you move venues then you should inform your insurer so they can update any details, ensuring your cover is valid.
