What is...
yoga teacher insurance?
As a yoga teacher, your goal is to help students find balance, flexibility, and strength.
But what happens when things go off balance? Yoga teacher insurance is designed to protect your practice from the unexpected, whether it’s a student injury or damaged equipment, or mirror in your studio.
Whether you teach in a studio, from home, or online, we’ll compare quotes to help you find the cover that fits your flow.
Why do yoga teachers need insurance?
Even the calmest classes come with risks. The right insurance can protect your practice from common challenges like:
- A student claims they were injured during a session
- Your yoga equipment is stolen or damaged
- You injure yourself while teaching or demonstrating poses
What does yoga business insurance cover?
Every yoga practice is different, and policies will vary per provider, and terms and conditions apply, so always check the small print in your policy wording to see what’s included and excluded. Your insurance package might include:
Public liability insurance

Employers’ liability insurance

Business interruption insurance
Equipment insurance
Building insurance
What doesn’t it cover?
While yoga teacher insurance covers plenty, there are likely to be some exclusions, including:
- Intentional damage – Damage caused on purpose isn’t covered.
- Neglect – Failing to maintain or secure your equipment can void your policy.
- General wear and tear – Normal ageing or wear on your equipment, like yoga mats, isn’t included.
Double-check your policy details or speak to our team if you have any questions about what’s covered and what isn’t.
How much does yoga teacher cover cost?
Yoga teacher insurance could cost from 23p a day*
Because all yoga practices are different, it’s difficult to give an actual figure for what you’ll be paying without speaking to a broker. This is because your business is unique, and prices depend on a number of factors, including:
- Where you teach — Studio-based, home, or online classes can all carry different risks.
- The styles you teach — More specialist or high-risk yoga styles like power vinyasa may be deemed riskier than yin.
- Extent of cover — The more cover you opt for, the more expensive your package will likely be.
- Your insurer — Depending on who is willing to insure you, the price for their policies will vary.
- Location — The location of your business is taken into consideration when calculating the cost of your premiums.
- Claims history — If you’ve made a claim on your policy or had claims made against you, it may affect your future premiums.

*This price is for a trades and professions policy – 10% of customers who were sold with one of our panel providers paid £84.20 or less annually (excluding any additional administration fees) between 01/01/25 & 31/12/2025. Equivalent to £7.02 a month or £0.23 a day (and excludes the extra costs for paying monthly). Your actual policy and price may vary based on your business requirements.
Do you need insurance if you teach yoga online?
Teaching yoga online comes with its own risks like claims from clients who feel your guidance caused them harm. Always tell your broker if you teach online through your own online platform or through social media sites so they can arrange the right cover for your needs. If you’re uploading video content to social media sites, this may be at your own risk.
What if I own my yoga studio?
If you own a studio, you may want to consider building insurance, business contents and stock and any computer equipment you own in your package. This will help protect against fire and flood, and also against break-ins and arsonists. We can help arrange this cover for you.
Are you covered for teaching various yoga styles?
Yes. Whether you’re teaching vinyasa, hatha, restorative, or even aerial yoga, your policy can be tailored to cover multiple styles. Just be sure to tell your broker what kind of yoga practices you teach so they can arrange it.
Do you need any qualifications for yoga insurance?
In the UK, while there are no legal requirements for yoga insurance, most insurers will expect you to have the relevant qualifications. Typically, they look for:
- A recognised yoga teaching qualification (usually 200 hours minimum training)
- Membership with a yoga governing body like the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) or Yoga Alliance
Some insurers may accept alternative qualifications or significant teaching experience, but having proper certification makes obtaining insurance much easier and often results in better coverage terms.
What if you teach yoga to training instructors?
If you run instructor training, you’ll likely need additional coverage for your professional indemnity insurance. Speak to our insurance team, who can help you find the right policy no matter what or who you teach.

What insurance do you need if you rent a space at a studio?
If you rent a space in a studio, you’ll need to consider public liability to protect against injury or damages and even professional indemnity insurance to protect against incorrect advice. It’s also a good idea to insure any equipment you bring along.
Do you need to insure your yoga equipment?
Your mats, props and other equipment are essential to your practice. Business equipment insurance helps protect them from theft due to a break-in damage, or loss.
