What is...
marketing business insurance?
Whether you're running an agency or working as a freelance consultant, having the right insurance coverage can help you financially so you can focus on what you do best - creating impactful marketing strategies.
Marketing insurance is a professional coverage that can help protect marketing professionals, agencies, and consultants from the risks associated with providing marketing services. It's a packaged designed to help give you the right protection for your creative business.
Why do marketing professionals need insurance?
Whether you’re burying your head in data everyday or you’re working on your latest creative campaign - working in marketing doesn’t come without its risks. You should consider having insurance in case:
- A client claims your campaign led to financial loss
- An employee suffers an injury while carrying out work for you
- A client or visitor trips and falls in your office
- A client sues over copyright or intellectual property disputes
Having the right insurance in place can help if someone makes a claim against you, or if you need to make a claim.
What does marketing insurance cover?
Policies vary per provider, and limits and exclusions apply. Always refer to your policy wording for details about what is and isn’t covered. Speak to your insurer if you have specific questions. Your packages could include:

Public liability insurance

Employers’ liability insurance

Professional indemnity insurance
Business interruption insurance

How much does marketing insurance cost?
Marketing business insurance could cost from 54p a day*
But, no two insurers are the same and your actual premium depends on your requirements. This is because your business is unique, and prices depend on a number of factors, including:
- Extent of cover - The more cover you opt for, the more expensive your package is likely to be.
- Your insurer - The insurer you choose will also influence costs.
- Business activities - The type of services you offer will play a big part in determining the scope of your cover, influencing costs.
- Location – Where you work is taken into consideration when calculating the price of your premiums.
- Claims history - Whether or not you’ve had previous claims made against you or you have made previous claims may affect your future premiums.
*This price is for a offices and surgeries policy – 10% of customers who were sold with one of our panel providers paid £197.16 or less annually (excluding any additional administration fees) between 01/01/25 & 31/12/2025. Equivalent to £16.43 a month or £0.54 a day (and excludes the extra costs for paying monthly). Your actual policy and price may vary based on your business requirements.

Marketing Insurance FAQs
What if you work from home?
If you run your business from home or partially work from home, you still need to consider business insurance, especially if you have client meetings in your home. If a client tripped and suffered an injury in your home, you could still be held liable.
Always tell your broker if you work from home. You should also always inform your home insurer if you carry out work activities in your home.
I’m a marketing freelancer, do I need cover?
It’s essential to consider the right insurance as a freelancer. If you have your own clients, you could be held responsible, especially if you’re giving out professional marketing advice. If you’re a digital nomad, you should consider insurance that travels with you so you’re protected when on the move.
Is past work covered?
We cannot cover previous work. If you’ve had continuous professional indemnity cover in place (no gaps in cover), then we can look at the retroactive date – but this is the only insurance type that looks into past issues.
Retroactive cover helps with claims coming out of the woodwork from work completed months or years ago. However, you need an existing professional indemnity policy in place for a retroactive date to be put in place.
If you’re taking out a new policy and have never had any professional indemnity cover in place, then you aren’t able to have retroactive coverage as there was no cover in place prior. You would only be covered from the start date of your new policy.
